About this assessment
This is an online behavioural questionnaire that assesses your natural and adjusted behavioural styles, it is not a ‘personality’ test.
The test is straightforward, and answering the questionnaire takes less than 15 minutes. The questions are easy to understand, and you simply choose a set of words that is most like you or least like you.
WHAT IS A DISC PROFILE?
A DISC profile measures an individual’s behavioural style in a variety of workplace contexts. The DISC profile is not an analysis of intelligence or ability – but of a person’s natural behavioural tendencies in areas such as sales and leadership.
Extended DISC is a self-assessment that measures an individual’s natural (unconscious) behavioural style as well as adjusted (conscious) style. DISC assessments are practical, easy to understand and implement.
HOW WILL THIS BENEFIT A VET PRACTICE?
A DISC profile provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the way a person tends to interact with their colleagues. The report describes a person’s decision-making style, preferred means of communication, and general behaviour in a workplace environment. The reports also provide information about things that motivate the respondent, what causes them stress, as well as tips to improve their performance. The information in the DISC report is also helpful when recruiting to avoid bad hires and can be used to improve employees’ performance.
DISC is a valuable tool to help us understand ourselves and the behavioural patterns of the people around us to create a psychologically safe space for the veterinary professional team to express themselves fully.
AND THEN WHAT?
After completing the questionnaire, you will receive a copy of the report. DISC does not provide high or low scores or classify people into ‘better’ or ‘worse’ categories or measure intelligence, professional skills or attitudes. Instead, it gives accurate data on which behavioural styles someone consciously and unconsciously displays. It doesn’t limit your ability to develop and change.
Dr. Larry van Niekerk will arrange a time with you to take a deep dive into the report. This is a good time to ask any questions about the report or discuss any concerns.
Who is this assessment for?
The assessment is beneficial for the entire veterinary leadership team to create a cohesive unit, reducing staff conflict and turnover.
It is also a useful tool when hiring new employees to ascertain whether their behavioural style is appropriate for the position and the team dynamics.
Testimonial
I got the opportunity to get to know about Dr Larry’s work as a part of my recruitment process. Being a Pacific Islander from Fiji, I was never exposed to such assessments. It was something very new to me and initially it did make me slightly nervous.
After attempting the questions, the first stage of assessment, I received a 21-page document containing the results from the questionnaire. It took me a while to read and process the information. As a 25-year old there seemed to be a lot more to me than what I made myself to believe. Some of which were obviously taught to us to be bad traits. Thus, I realised I was simply suppressing them within myself or was ignorant to them. That is when I figured in order to move forward and grow, one must learn and understand about themself first before they can start working on improving.
My first session with Dr Larry was early in the morning. He walked me through the information very smoothly and made me feel very comfortable that for once it felt like I know him well enough to be comfortable to express myself. There was no holding back, I could even speak about my deepest fears without hesitation. As an individual, I have always thought of myself as someone that has acquired sufficient qualities to thrive. However, during my first session with Dr Larry I seemed to be mistaken. To maximize and reach true potentials, we sometimes have to see the world from a different perspective and go beyond our limitations.
Just in one session he has helped me work on my emotions that I seemed to have buried deep inside of me and which may have been holding me back from a lot of greater things. Working with Dr Larry helped me professionally and in my personal life as well. Trying to survive the compulsion of life, we turn to forget to pay attention and focus on ourselves, which infact can make life so much easier. I feel content having gone through this exercise and express my deep gratitude towards Dr Larry.
Thank you for allowing me to participate in the Behavioural Analysis study.
The questionnaire was straightforward and didn’t take long at all to complete and yet the results are extremely insightful and accurate. I found I could really relate to the feedback but more importantly, it showed me areas that were outside my comfort zone and as you explained these require more energy for me to deal with. Now that I know this, I can more easily prepare for times when I need to deal in these high-energy areas (as we all must).
Interestingly, one immediately subconsciously starts to understand one`s co-workers and appreciate their strengths and areas of stress. This can now help me to identify leaders in different areas and certainly strengthen the team dynamic.
I can certainly recommend the exercise and it has helped me identify strengths in myself as well as the people I work with.
Thank you once again.
